Course Overview

The Certificate in Organisational Resilience & Crisis Management provides a practical foundation in how organisations prepare for, respond to, recover from and learn from disruption. It is designed for learners who need to understand resilience as an organisational capability that protects critical services, supports decision-making under pressure, and helps organisations continue operating through uncertainty.

Across six modules, learners explore the causes and impacts of disruption, the importance of critical services and dependencies, the fundamentals of business continuity, crisis leadership, response and recovery, communication, and continuous improvement. The course helps learners understand how resilience and crisis management connect to risk management, governance, operations, service delivery and stakeholder confidence.

Learners begin by examining disruption risk through the Disruption Risk Landscape Model, considering threats, vulnerabilities, critical services and impacts. They then use the Service Dependency Mapping Model to understand which services, resources and dependencies matter most, and how impact tolerance supports prioritisation. The course also introduces the Continuity Preparedness Cycle, showing how organisations plan, prepare, test and improve their ability to respond to disruption.

Later modules focus on crisis decision-making, response, recovery, communication and learning. Learners will understand how roles, information flows, decisions and communication support effective crisis leadership, how organisations stabilise and restore operations, and how lessons from disruption are embedded into stronger resilience practices.

By the end of the course, learners will be able to identify common disruption scenarios, recognise critical services and dependencies, explain basic continuity and crisis management principles, support structured response and recovery activities, and contribute to post-incident learning and resilience improvement.
