Course Overview

The Certificate in Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) provides a practical foundation in how organisations identify, assess, manage, monitor and report risk. It is designed for learners who need to understand risk management as an end-to-end organisational process rather than as a narrow technical function.

Across six modules, learners are introduced to the core building blocks of enterprise risk management, including the risk process, governance and accountability, risk appetite, risk assessment, treatment options, controls, assurance, monitoring and reporting. The course uses clear practical models to help learners understand how risk management works in real organisational settings.

Learners begin by exploring the Enterprise Risk Management Cycle, covering how risk is managed from objectives through to reporting. They then examine governance and accountability using the Three Lines of Accountability Model, helping them understand who owns risk, who supports risk management, and who provides independent assurance. The course also explains how risk appetite and tolerance guide decision-making, how uncertainty is converted into prioritised risks, and how organisations select appropriate risk treatment responses.
By the end of the course, learners will have a strong foundation in ERM principles and practical methods. They will be able to support risk identification, contribute to risk assessments, understand control and treatment options, and assist with risk monitoring, escalation and reporting. The course is especially suitable for professionals who interact with risk management as part of their role and need a structured, business-focused understanding of ERM.
