Course Overview

The Certificate in Operational, Compliance & Regulatory Risk provides a practical foundation in how organisations identify, manage, evidence and report operational and compliance-related risks. It is designed for learners who need to understand how risks arise from day-to-day business activities, processes, people, systems, controls and regulatory obligations.

Across six modules, learners explore the relationship between operational risk, compliance risk and regulatory expectations. The course explains how risk events occur, how controls are designed to reduce the likelihood or impact of events, and how compliance obligations are translated into practical controls, evidence and reporting activities.

Learners begin by examining where operational and compliance risks come from using the Operational & Compliance Risk Chain, covering processes, people, systems, external obligations and outcomes. They then explore how risk events, causes, controls and outcomes are connected through the Risk Event–Control Relationship Model. The course also introduces the basics of regulatory obligation mapping, showing how obligations are converted into requirements, controls, evidence and reporting.

Later modules focus on risk and control assessment, incident and issue management, remediation, monitoring, evidence and escalation. Learners will understand how controls influence residual risk, how organisations respond when things go wrong, and how evidence supports credible operational and compliance risk reporting.

By the end of the course, learners will be able to recognise common sources of operational, compliance and regulatory risk, support basic risk and control assessments, understand incident and issue management processes, and contribute to monitoring, evidence collection and reporting. The course provides a strong foundation for professionals who support controls, compliance, operations, governance, audit or risk reporting in any organisational setting.
